Dear Friends In Christ Sonia Holder, President, St. Peter's Lutheran Church
Dear Friends in Christ,
Study the Word of God. You will find that It's OK to Pray. I want to invite you to study God's Word in several new articles by
Pastor Don Matzat.
Last July 12, St. Peter's invited the congregations and pastors of the Atlantic District of the LCMS to our church to hear the Synodical President,
Dr. Kieschnick, listen to us and address us. Our concern was for our Pastor, who had been suspended from the clergy roster of the LCMS, for his health, for his ability to preach and lead, for the way he has been
treated by pastors in his own denomination.
Seven hundred people were there that night, cramming into every corner of our buildings. They heard Dr. Kieschnick speak clear words of support.
They were also impressed by the way in which he listened to us. My dad, Gerald, the head elder at St. Peter's, presented one of those speeches.
Afterwards, we received a copy of the newspaper Christian News. We didn't ask for it, but we got it. Now WE were attacked, held up to ridicule, and
presented as some kind of inner-city fools that could never understand Lutheran doctrine. The articles in that paper were hateful. Again, they were written by our own people, by Lutherans – Rev. Otten, a Rev.
Cascione of an organization called "Reclaiming Walther," and others.
Pastor Don Matzat was there with us on July 12. He understood that at St. Peter's we have no other power than the power of the Gospel. That's the
way we have been taught. And we were taught by our Pastor, David Benke.
Pastor Matzat has written some articles that appear on our webpage. We want you to know, Rev. Otten, Rev. Cascione, and the rest of you Pastors,
that we understand these articles. We are not the fools you make us out to be. We also understand the President of the LCMS. We know how to welcome our elected leader. We listened carefully to him. He made sense.
The new articles by Pastor Matzat speak directly to the reasons FROM THE BIBLE why it was important and right for Pastor B. to be at Yankee Stadium.
Read them, enjoy them, and use the Bible study in your congregations and homes. It's OK to pray! We pray for Rev. Otten, Rev. Cascione, and the others who show the world their weak commitment to the Gospel of Jesus
by wanting to keep it all to themselves. Don't hide your light under a bushel, pastors – it's OK to pray!
In Christ,
Sonia Holder, President St. Peter's Lutheran Church
